The New England Patriotsacquired A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, and the cost was pretty reasonable for a top wide receiver. In return, the Patriots traded a 2028 first-round draft pick and a 2027 fifth-round draft pick.

Neither draft pick will be particularly valuable if New England remains one of the best teams in the NFL over the next several years, making the return seem relatively light for the Eagles. However, NFL insider Adam Schefter explained the "hidden value" of the trade for Philadelphia during his Tuesday morning appearance on "Get Up."

"The hidden value of that deal is that it also frees up about $30 million for the Philadelphia Eagles," Schefter explained. "The Eagles get to spend $30-plus million and make trades like the one they did on the second night of the draft for Jonathan Greenard, which wouldn't have been possible if they didn't know that they were trading A.J. Brown to the Patriots."

That freed up payroll and cap space gives Howie Roseman more flexibility to retool the Eagles' roster after getting bounced in the wild card round of the playoffs.

Meanwhile, the Patriots also get some financial flexibility with this deal. By trading for Brown on or after June 1, New England can spread out his $40 million cap hit over the next two seasons.

It's just another way this trade is a win-win for both sides.
