The Seattle Seahawks have made a lot of changes to the roster this offseason after winning the Super Bowl. They lost a few key players in free agency and added some fun players in the 2026 NFL Draft.

But, there is one position room that didn't have any changes despite the opportunity for a few moves: the wide receiver room. Jaxon Smith-Njigba signed a huge extension, Rashid Shaheed re-signed, Jake Bobo is back, and now, the Seahawks have made a trade.

According to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, the Seahawks are swinging a trade for a 6-foot-4 wide receiver from the New York Jets for a conditional draft choice.

"NEWS: The Jets are trading WR Irv Charles to the Seattle Seahawks for a conditional seventh-round pick, per source," Rosenblatt reports.

Irvin Charles is a 29-year-old wide receiver who is 6-foot-4, 219 pounds. He's been with the Jets since 2022, and yet, not once has Charles recorded a reception.

So, why did the Seahawks trade for a wide receiver who didn't record a single reception during his NFL career so far? There's one reason: Special teams.

Charles is actually a valuable special teamer, as he's played 236 snaps in 2023 and 214 snaps in 2024 on special teams for the Jets. According to Pro Football Focus, Charles has received special team grades of 88.6 and 90.3, which are elite grades by PFF's metric.

The Seahawks are trading a conditional seventh-round pick to the Jets to acquire Charles to act as a special teamer. Even though he might not be an actual wide receiver, he's a good special teamer who could make the Seahawks roster.

This conditional seventh-round pick likely won't convey if Charles doesn't make the initial 53-man roster, and even if it does get sent to the Jets due to the condition being met, it's a low price to pay for a good special teamer.
