“They’re a team that’s gonna BABIP the s--t out of you,” he told reporters following the Yankees’ 2-1 loss to Toronto at Yankee Stadium, per Gary Phillips of the Daily News.
BABIP (Batting Average on Balls In Play) is a statistic that measures how often a batted ball results in a hit, specifically excluding home runs, strikeouts, and walks.
Schlittler was implying everything the Blue Jays hit fell in regardless of quality of contact.
Schlittler went six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
For the season, Schlittler is 6-2. He ranks first in the American League in ERA (1.50) and fourth in strikeouts (75).
Schlittler has allowed a total of 35 earned runs in his first 25 career big league games and struck out 159 batters doing it, per CodifyBaseball.
The only pitcher in MLB history to top both of those marks in their first 25 games is Paul Skenes.
