The Chicago Bears are bolstering their secondary with the signing of veteran safety Anthony Johnson Jr., according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Johnson was a seventh-round pick by the Green Bay Packers back in 2023, where he appeared in 12 games with four starts as a rookie. He totaled 24 tackles, three pass breakups and one interception during his rookie season before being released by the Packers the following offseason as part of final roster cuts.

Johnson has spent the last two seasons with the New York Giants (2024-25), where he played primarily on special teams. He played in nine games during the 2024 season, totaling five tackles and one pass breakup in 21 snaps on defense during the final two games of the season. Johnson spent the entire 2025 season on injured reserve before being released by the Giants back in March.
The Bears lost both starting safeties Kevin Byard and Jaquan Brisker this offseason, but they did shore up the back end of the defense with the addition of free agent Coby Bryant and first-round rookie Dillon Thieneman as their new starting safeties. Johnson has an opportunity to compete for a depth role at safety this summer.
