The New York Giants have been on alert ever since defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence requested a trade away from the franchise after frustration over the lack of movement on a new deal.
Some thought this was just a negotiating tactic to move things along, while others thought there was a real chance Lawrence wanted out.
Well, now NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has dropped a huge update on the contract talks with the Giants and Lawrence.
And it's not a good update for Giants fans.
The #Giants and star DL Dexter Lawrence, who have been talking about a new big-money extension, have reached an impasse, sources say.

Giants looking at trade options
Exactly what the Giants would want in return for Lawrence remains to be seen, but one would imagine that talks would start with a first-round pick.
The star defensive lineman will no doubt have his suitors, and with no guaranteed money left on his deal, a team will likely have to double up, meaning use draft capital to get Lawrence, then have to extend him.
So, there might only be a handful of teams willing to do that.
Either way, what started out as what some thought was a simple negotiating tactic now likely sees Lawrence play for a different team in 2026.
