Stout medically forfeited against St. Francis DeSales junior Joel Welch in the 165-pound championship bout in Division II.

"I had a lot of support behind me, our community's very good," Stout said. "I just came into the tournament and I felt a lot better since I moved up two weight classes. I had some good matches."

Stout qualified for the OHSAA tournament in 2025, but dropped his first round match before wrestling back through the consolation bracket and placing eighth at 150 pounds in Division II.

Moving up two weight classes might have been a struggle for some wrestlers. Not Stout. There was a bit of a learning curve, but he adapted with time and dominated the postseason.

"It was different, kids were a lot stronger than me at first," Stout said. "But you kind of get used to it. It's just time."

Stout entered the OHSAA tournament as the top-seeded wrestler out of the Gallia Academy district, following his gold medal at the district tournament a week prior. That dominance extended into the state tournament. He made quick work of his first two opponents, winning by 19-3 tech fall in the first round and by pin in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, Stout defeated Perkins sophomore Law Davlin by 7-4 decision in sudden victory.

Stout expectations haven't changed much from year-to-year. He's been wrestling since elementary school, and his first state tournament appearance as a freshman only fueled his desire to keep climbing the podium.

"Last year, I wanted the same thing," Stout said. "I want to be on top, but it just didn't come out that way."

Stout ends his sophomore season with a 44-5 record, and his first state silver medal under wraps.
