A former Florida Gators quarterback, who may be more well known for his work on TV than the football field, basically admitted this week he wants no part of the Tennessee Vols right now.
Jesse Palmer, a quarterback at Florida from 1997 to 2000 who also appeared on The Bachelor, joined Another Dooley Noted podcast this week and dropped an interesting comment about the Gators’ schedule this fall.
Jesse Palmer is happy Florida won’t play Tennessee in 2026
Florida and Tennessee won’t play each other this fall for the first time since 1989 (that’s thanks to the SEC’s new nine-game conference schedule, which significantly changed how SEC schedules look moving forward).
And Palmer thinks that’s a good thing.
“There’s so many question marks, I feel like, on our team at quarterback and a lot of other spots heading into this year,” said Palmer. “But listen, optimism — you remove LSU and Tennessee off the schedule, and you replace it with Kentucky and South Carolina. There are reasons for optimism.”
Palmer is basically saying he’s glad Tennessee isn’t on Florida’s schedule.
When was the last time anyone in Gainesville said that? They certainly weren’t saying it when Florida had won 16 of 17 against Tennessee.
But now the Vols have won three of their last four games against Florida (including a win last season in the Swamp), and the Gators aren’t as interested in seeing the Volunteers each fall.
That’s a testament to the job that Josh Heupel has done at Tennessee. It wasn’t that long ago that former Gators like Palmer couldn’t wait to see the Vols on the schedule, and now they’re happy to get a year off from playing the Big Orange.
