An SPCA branch in Gauteng is calling on members of the public for assistance in the aftermath of a break-in.
Last week, SPCA Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark found themselves on the receiving end of a brazen theft. This led to many of their essential items being stolen.

BLANKETS, BEDDING AND BASKETS STOLEN
According to a Facebook post shared by the branch, the break-in took place last Friday, 12 June 2026.
“The perpetrators gained access to our property through our farmyard area, where they broke through our precast wall slabs to enter the premises,” the post reads. “Once inside, they targeted the very items that help us care for the vulnerable animals entrusted to us.”
Dog beds, blankets, washing baskets and plastic containers used to wash and soak bedding were taken. Additionally, the perpetrators removed a recently donated washing machine from the property.
EXTEND A HELPING HAND
In the wake of the theft, and with winter already making its presence known in Gauteng, staff members at the SPCA were left “devastated”.
“It is heartbreaking to think that anyone would steal from a charity dedicated to protecting and caring for animals,” they wrote. “We are already operating under immense financial pressure, and now we face the additional burden of replacing essential items that were generously donated by our supporters.”
As such, they are calling on the public to help replace these items. In turn, they will keep the animals in their care comfortable, safe and warm during what promises to be a very chilly season.
If you are in a position to do so, you can donate the following:
- Blankets (new or gently used)
- Dog beds
- Washing baskets
- Large plastic tubs and/or containers
- A washing machine
So far, their plea has yielded a great response from the public. Nevertheless, the SPCA emphasises that the need remains ongoing – not just during the winter months, but also during the rest of the year and beyond.
