Sha’Carri Richardson wins season-debut in 100; US women sweep podium

LOS ANGELES – Sha’Carri Richardson ran a 10.99 to win the women’s 100 meter in her season debut in the race.

Running at the Los Angeles Grand Prix, Richardson got a good start out of the blocks and cruised to a first-place finish.

A trio of Americans swept the podium. Kayla White finished second with a season-best 11.08 and Tamari Davis ran a 11.11 to take third.

Richardson earned a silver medal in the women’s 100 at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She was also a part of the Team USA’s Olympic-winning women’s 4x100 relay squad.

The 26-year-old sprinter enjoyed a career-year in 2023. Richardson ran a lifetime best 10.65 to win the 2023 world championship in the women’s 100 and also achieved gold in the women’s 4x100 relay. She notched another gold in the 4x100 relay at the 2025 world championships.

Richardson rose to fame when she won gold in the 100 at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials, but she was later disqualified from the 2020 Tokyo Olympic competition in the 100 after she was suspended for testing positive for THC.

Sunday’s Los Angeles Grand Prix was held at Allyson Felix Field at Katherine B. Loker Track Stadium which is within walking distance of the LA Memorial Coliseum, the host venue for the track and field competition at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Russell ran a 12.26 to win gold in the women’s 100 hurdles. The 2024 Paris Olympic champion set an LA Grand Prix meet record the performance.
