Victor Wembanyama's difficult night did not end when the final buzzer sounded at Madison Square Garden.
After the New York Knicks completed a stunning 107-106 comeback victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, the Spurs star was met by a hostile crowd outside his Manhattan hotel. Videos shared on social media showed fans gathering near the entrance as Wembanyama arrived with team security.
One video appeared to show an egg thrown in Wembanyama's direction. The object missed him and struck a nearby street sign before breaking apart. Wembanyama briefly turned toward the crowd before security escorted him inside. The New York Police Department later said it had no official report related to the incident.

The confrontation came hours after one of the most painful losses of the Spurs' season. San Antonio blew a 29-point lead as the Knicks rallied for a one-point victory that pushed the Spurs to the brink of elimination. Wembanyama also missed two late free throws during the collapse.
The scenes outside the hotel followed several days of rising tension between the two fan bases. Earlier in the series, videos circulated online showing Spurs supporters being harassed in New York, with some fans having jerseys ripped apart after San Antonio's Game 3 victory. Wembanyama publicly condemned those incidents, saying fans should remember that basketball is only a game and that respect must come first.
Celebrations across New York after Game 4 also led to a heavy police response. According to the NYPD, 56 people were taken into custody on charges ranging from assault to disorderly conduct as large crowds filled the streets around Midtown Manhattan. Police described parts of the postgame behavior as reckless and dangerous.
Concerns about crowd behavior have already affected Finals-related events. Madison Square Garden canceled a planned public watch party before Game 4, citing safety concerns after earlier disturbances connected to the series.
With the Finals returning to San Antonio for Game 5, league officials and both teams will hope the focus shifts back to basketball rather than the growing security concerns surrounding the series.
