Kentucky Football received some preseason recognition yesterday when four Wildcats were recognized with Southeastern Conference preseason honors.

Willie Rodriguez, a junior tight end in his third season at UK, was named to the All-SEC preseason Second Team. Joining him was senior teammate and center Coleton Price — a recent transfer from Baylor.

Veteran defensive back Ty Bryant and senior offensive linemen Lance Heard were both named to the All-SEC preseason Third Team.

Kentucky’s team has — for the most part — been completely rebuilt under the new, fresh leadership of first-year head coach Will Stein.

Though their daunting strength of schedule may not allow for a bowl-eligible season this fall, Kentucky has more than a handful of highly talented football players and should surprise a lot of people who haven’t followed UK’s offseason.

The Wildcats will begin their season in 85 days as they take on Youngstown State on Saturday, September 5th, ahead of Labor Day. They’ll quickly turn around the following weekend to host likely top 25 Alabama before going to Texas A&M the weekend after.

There will be a few softer spots in the schedule, but before and after will be real SEC football matchups that will show us just what Kentucky football is made of early on in Stein’s head coaching career.
