The Buffalo Bills are hoping to finally get over the hump in 2026 after another devastating playoff exit in 2025.
Buffalo's offense, especially the passing attack led by quarterback Josh Allen, wasn't as dynamic last year as it has been in previous years. However, the running game picked up the slack, with running back James Cook leading the league in rushing yards (1,621) and serving as the backbone of the offense.
The Bills upgraded the receiver room around Allen this offseason with the addition of DJ Moore via trade with the Chicago Bears and the selection of Skyler Bell in Round 4. But one NFL analyst believes Buffalo should make another trade this offseason to bolster Joe Brady's offense, this time for a running back to pair with Cook.
Bills linked to trade for Alvin Kamara with Saints
FOX Sports' Greg Auman believes Alvin Kamara's time with the New Orleans Saints could be coming to an end, and he lists the Bills as a top landing spot for the former Pro Bowl back.
"They've [The Saints have] moved on from key veterans from those final Drew Brees playoff teams in the last year, and Kamara makes sense as the next one to go. Kamara has maintained that he wants to finish his career with the Saints, so the threat of him retiring rather than reporting to a new team might lessen what the Saints can get," Auman said.
Auman pointed to Kamara's connection with Bills offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael as a reason why Buffalo could pursue the veteran playmaker. Carmichael spent nearly 18 years in New Orleans, including 14 years as the offensive coordinator from 2009 to 2023. He was hired by the Bills this offseason to serve as the offensive coordinator under Brady, who will be calling the plays from his head coach position.
Though Kamara is past his prime, the 30-year-old can still be a productive player in the right system. Kamara has always been an elite receiver out of the backfield, and that would fit well in Buffalo's offense, as the Tennessee product could step in and play the safety valve role for Allen.
Kamara would also pair well with Cook, and the two would arguably form the best running-back duo in the sport.
Obviously, trading for Kamara does come with some risk. The five-time Pro Bowler has repeatedly said he wants to remain in New Orleans for his entire career, and even hinted around the trade deadline last season that he would retire if the Saints ever moved him elsewhere.
"I just got to keep my head down," Kamara said last October when asked about trade rumors via ESPN’s Katherine Terrell. "And I don't know, if I was a GM, I guess I would go to the player and be like, 'Hey, we're trading you. Just so you know.' So, if (Saints general manager) Mickey (Loomis) come downstairs and says that, then I'm going to go drink a piña colada somewhere."
Despite a down year in 2025, Kamara still has juice left in the tank, and if he's open to the idea of playing somewhere else, Buffalo should call New Orleans and look to acquire the 2017 offensive rookie of the year to add another chess piece to their offense.
