Nysos to race on for Baoma and Coolmore before Ashford Stud career
Nysos will continue racing through the Breeders’ Cup before beginning the next stage of his career at Ashford Stud, after Coolmore bought into the high-class Bob Baffert-trained five-year-old.
Thoroughbred Daily News reported that the Coolmore partners, Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, have purchased an interest in the son of Nyquist.
He will race in partnership with Baoma Corporation through the Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland in November before retiring to Ashford.
It is a significant racing and bloodstock move around one of the leading dirt horses in North America.
Nysos already has the horse racing profile farms look for: top-level wins, speed at a mile, a strong dirt pedigree and a campaign that still has time to add a Classic-level finish before he goes to stud.
Met Mile win sharpened the picture
The timing of the deal lands just after Nysos produced another major performance in the Hill ‘n’ Dale Metropolitan Handicap at Saratoga on Belmont Stakes night.
Nysos won the Grade 1 Met Mile by four lengths under Flavien Prat, beating Knightsbridge and Journalism in a high-class seven-runner field.
The race was run over one mile on dirt, with Nysos stopping the clock in 1:34.85.
After his Met Mile win, Bob Baffert said: “What a talented horse. I always thought he’s one of the best older horses in training and today he showed it.”
Nysos has now raced 10 times and is still to finish outside the first two with eight wins (two seconds) – amassing $5,288,500 in total prize money along the way.

Breeders’ Cup The Target For Nysos
That win followed his Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile success at Del Mar last year and strengthened the case for connections to aim higher later this season.
The NYRA Press Office comments, reported that Nysos improved to eight wins from ten starts, with more than $5.2 million in earnings, and that the Breeders’ Cup Classic is the stated goal.
Baffert has not yet fixed the next step, with the Whitney and other routes still possible, but the broad direction is clear: Nysos is being managed as a top-class racehorse first, then as a major stallion prospect.
The last Breeders’ Cup Classic winner aged 5 was the Brad H. Cox-trained Knicks Go in 2021.
While since 2014 the race has only produced two winning 5yolds – with the other Accelerate in 2018.
