RB Leipzig’s Assan Ouédraogo to take Lennart Karl’s World Cup spot with Germany

According to a report from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann will call RB Leipzig midfielder Assan Ouédraogo to take the place of injured Bayern Munich star Lennart Karl.

It is not a like-for-like replacement in terms of position, but Nagelsmann did opt to give the spot to a promising youngster rather than a more established player:

As revealed, the 20 y/o RB Leipzig top talent only narrowly missed out on the original squad. Now he will travel from his holiday in Spain to Chicago. Julian Nagelsmann has already informed him. Leipzig informed as well.

Ouédraogo made his debut for the German national team back on November 17th, 2025 where he played 13 minutes against Slovakia and scored a late goal.
