Devin Lloyd's connection to Luke Kuechly began long before he became a Carolina Panther.
In a recent interview with the team's radio play-by-play commentator Anish Schroff, Lloyd recalled a conversation he had with Kuechly in the midst of his jump to the pros. The fifth-year linebacker told Schroff that he spoke with the former Defensive Player of the Year and five-team first-team All-Pro soon after he was drafted in 2022, when Kuechly's agency attempted to recruit him.

A consensus All-American at the University of Utah, Lloyd was selected with the 27th overall pick of that year's draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He went on to amass 436 combined tackles, 3.5 sacks and nine interceptions through the 2024 campaign—where he earned his first career Pro Bowl nod.
Lloyd parlayed his standout season into a three-year, $42 million deal with the Panthers out of free agency this past spring. Given his production and playmaking ability, Lloyd is viewed almost as the heir apparent to Kuechly.
Luckily for Lloyd, he shouldn't have a hard time reaching the Hall of Famer from now on.
