Kentucky's starting catcher is entering the transfer portal

· Yahoo Sports

The college baseball transfer portal is open, and the Kentucky Wildcats, along with every other program, will inevitably lose some players and add others. On Thursday, catcher Owen Jenkins became their first starter to announce he was heading elsewhere, as reported by Derek Terry of Bat Cats Central.

Jenkins came to Kentucky this season as a true freshman, and took over the starting job quickly. He wound up starting 38 games for the Wildcats, and hit .242 with 1 homerun and 17 RBIs. He slugged just .315, but he did add 9 stolen bases.

Overall, it was a solid freshman campaign, and the potential is there for him to be a very good player. Kentucky coaches would have loved for that to be in Lexington, but Jenkins will be looking for a new home instead.

There will likely be more names from Kentucky to enter the portal over the coming days. Then, players will begin to sign, and the Wildcats will add new ones. It's the nature of college sports in 2026. We will update all the roster changes with Kentucky and the baseball team.
