The Charlotte Hornets brought in Drew Peterson on a two-way contract last summer, as the move marked a reunion with Peterson and head coach Charles Lee, as the two spent time with one another on the Boston Celtics during the 2023-24 season when Lee was an assistant.

Although Peterson was signed for depth, he played in just six games for the Horntes throughout the year on a two-way contract before being released in favor of former Clemson big man PJ Hall. Although Peterson didn't get much playing time (10.7 minutes per game), he left a lot to be desired on the floor. The former Celtic averaged 0.8 points, 1.5 rebounds, 0.3 assists and 0.5 steals. While it was a small sample size, Peterson struggled mightily shooting the ball, converting on zero 3-pointers and just 12.5% of field goals. After his release from the Hornets, Peterson latched on with the Motor City Cruise, the Detroit Pistons G-League affiliate.
