Arizona Cardinals HC Mike LaFleur making rookies earn way up depth chart

· Yahoo Sports

The Arizona Cardinals are almost done with their offseason program. They conclude the voluntary part of the offseason this week with OTAs and have three days of mandatory minicamp next week. The team hasn't given many things away in terms of what to know, and media members were only able to observe 30 minutes of three practices during OTAs.

However, we can glean one thing that is a change under head coach Mike LaFleur.

Per SI.com's Donnie Druin, no rookies are working with their respective starting units.

Running back Jeremiyah Love and guard Chase Bisontis, the Cardinals' top two draft picks, have been working with the second-team offense, and quarterback Carson Beck, drafted in the third round, hasn't even sniffed the second team. He was running the third-team offense with Gardner Minshew with the starters and Kedon Slovis with backups.

This is not uncommon, but it is a change from former head coach Jonathan Gannon's teams. First-round picks almost immediately ran with the starters, even in OTAs. That was the case for tackle Paris Johnson and receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

It would appear that, if the rookies have a shot at first-team reps, that will happen in training camp.

Now, with veteran Tyler Allgeier signed in free agency, Love might not end up being No. 1 on the depth chart to start the season, but he will certainly have a role in the offense. Isaiah Adams remains the first-team right guard right now. We will see if Bisontis can overtake him later.
