Arizona Cardinals will not be trading pass rusher Josh Sweat

· Yahoo Sports

The Arizona Cardinals have had two lingering issues as they wrap up the voluntary offseason program this week. One has been the contract status of quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who has been absent from offseason workouts. The other has been the absence of outside linebacker Josh Sweat, which has led to trade rumors.

While the Cardinals reportedly have taken trade calls from other interested teams, it appears they are not shopping Sweat.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport made that clear on Wednesday. The Cardinals will not be trading Sweat.

There were rumors that the Green Bay Packers had interest. They have Jonathan Gannon, formerly the Cardinals' head coach with whom Sweat is close, as their defensive coordinator and star pass rusher Micah Parsons is expected to miss the start of the season.

After Gannon was fired following last season, Sweat reportedly requested a trade.

He led the team with 12 sacks and has three years of his four-year, $76.4 million deal remaining. The Cardinals made no moves at outside linebacker this offseason.

Now, while the Cardinals are saying they won't trade Sweat, this doesn't completely answer questions there are. Did Sweat request a trade? Is he unhappy with the team and the roster? Will he show up for mandatory minicamp next week? Or is he just training on his own and all is good?

Those are questions that remain to be answered.
