Two former Longhorn stars, Casey Hampton and Colt McCoy, are moving closer to college football immortality. The talented duo is on the 2027 ballot for induction into the NFF College Football Hall of Fame class. They were joined by over 80 players and 40 coaches.
During his time at Texas, Hampton was one of the nation's most dominant defensive linemen. He was a two-time first-team All-American and Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year as a senior. With him leading the way, the Longhorns ranked sixth in the nation in total defense in 1999 and seventh in yards per game in 2000. Texas native also etched his name into the record books when he became the first defensive lineman in school history to lead the team in tackles in back-to-back seasons.

After an impressive career at Texas, Hampton was selected 19th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2002 NFL Draft. In 12 seasons, the former first-round pick made five Pro Bowls and won two Super Bowls. Due to his stellar play, Hampton was inducted into the Steelers Hall of Honor in 2024.
Like Hampton, McCoy made the most of his time in Austin. He finished his Longhorns career with a 45-8 career record and was the first QB in Texas history to lead his team to consecutive 12-win seasons. The New Mexico native completed 1,157-of-1,645 of his passes for 13,253 yards during his time in the burnt orange. He also found the end zone 112 times through the air.

While McCoy's NFL career was full of ups and downs, he still managed to stay in the league for 13 years. He played for the Browns, 49ers, Redskins, Giants, and the Cardinals. The former third-round pick finished his pro career with 7,975 passing yards and 34 passing touchdowns.
For Hampton and McCoy, the wait for whether they will be inducted will be a few months, as the inductees won't be revealed until early 2027.
