On Thursday, it was revealed that the four-time Stanley Cup winner died from suicide at the furniture store he and his wife owned in Lake Park, Fla., in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Currently, Brendan is a forward for HC Davos in the Swiss National League. The 30-year-old played parts of seven seasons in the NHL, including 109 games spread over three years with the New York Rangers. He played 307 games in his NHL career. He also played for the Winnipeg Jets, Los Angeles Kings, Carolina Hurricanes and the Philadelphia Flyers.
No words to express
Claudia Lemieux also shared her thoughts on the untimely passing of her father.
“No words to express the level of devastation we feel,” she wrote on her Instagram account. “I love you forever daddy. Forever your only girl.”
Investigators with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said Lemieux’s family became concerned when he did not return home and went to check on him at his furniture store, Andros Home, just after 3 a.m.
Born in Buckingham, Que., Lemieux was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round of the 1983 NHL draft and would make his league debut a few months later on Oct. 13, 1983, against the Boston Bruins. He scored his first career goal on Dec. 4, 1983, in a 6-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
The elder Lemieux was in Montreal earlier this week for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final against the Hurricanes. He was at the Bell Centre to carry the torch during the pre-game ceremony.
Lemieux, 60, leaves behind four children, Brendan and Claudia, along with sons Michael and Christopher from his first marriage.
