The New York Yankees have a lot of possibilities at Major League Baseball's trade deadline, which is what makes this start to the season as fun as any over the past few years.
The Yankees, currently 34-22 and 1.5 games back in the American League East, are certainly going to be involved with some of the top players at the deadline.
The Yankees definitely have the ammo to go make a trade, too, which should put them in a very good spot to not only compete in the back end of the season, but potentially win a World Series.
On the flip side, I don't think the latest names linked to the Yankees are all that realistic, as trading for somebody like Ketel Marte just doesn't seem likely because of how many infielders New York already has on its roster.
“Let's say the Yankees were to acquire Marte to play second base. Chisholm—who is in his contract year—has shown the ability to play third base in the past. It might be hard for CJ Abrams and Anthony Volpe to co-exist, but if the Yankees acquired the former to play shortstop, Caballero would slide into more of a super-utility role, with the bulk of his time likely coming at third base,” Tim Kelly of BR wrote.
Don't get me wrong, the idea of bringing in Marte, or even CJ Abrams, would be very exciting.
However, the Yankees already have multiple infielders with Anthony Volpe, Jose Caballero, and Jazz Chisholm. I believe the Yankees need to add a star infielder and improve offensively, but that doesn't mean Brian Cashman will view this as something he wants to do.
