Obenrader struck out 15 in a one-hit shutout as Saegertown beat Wilmington 4-0 in the District 10 Class 2A softball championship on May 25 at Penn State Behrend.
“Knowing my defense was behind me was big and I trust them,” Obenrader said. “I was feeling pretty good early on and we prepared all week for this.”
Saegertown (18-3) and Wilmington (8-11) both move on to the PIAA first round on June 1.
The Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Obenrader walked, went to third on a base hit and scored on a sacrifice fly by her sister, Tori Obenrader.
The two teams struggled to get their offenses going for five more innings before the Panther added three runs in the fifth inning.
Tori Obenrader launched another sacrifice fly before Saegertown scored two runs on an error.
“We’ve been working hard in practice and we have a coaching staff pushing in practice and in games,” said Tori Obenrader. “We have a great lineup throughout and we have a lot of confidence in each other.”
