- High school recruiting has been a major focus and success during Jedd Fisch’s tenure at UW so far. Fisch hasn’t reached the on-field heights that Kalen DeBoer did during his brief stay in Seattle. However, the success feels more sustainable and appears to be building on an upward trajectory due to the talent acquisition system. Christian Caple looks back at the 2022 recruiting class, which is an especially stark example of the difference. It was DeBoer’s first class as he moved over from Fresno St to UW. A few recruits stuck around from Jimmy Lake’s final class, a few followed DeBoer, but the overall ranking was a scary 102nd nationally. The class produced Denzel Boston, but basically nobody else who was a long-term contributor.
- Speaking of recruiting, the UW staff has lined up a big weekend of official visits starting this coming Friday. Scott Eklund posted a recruiting blog for Dawgman to outline what we know so far about the visitors and where the recruitment stands with each of them. If things break well, the Dawgs could fill out really impressive groups at WR, OL, and DB in the relatively near future.
- The Seattle Times has a touching profile of UW rower Luke Collins. After his father died last year, Collins left the UW rowing team. After some time to grieve, Collins, a native of Poulsbo, returned to the team and is using his mom and sister as support to try to restore a sense of normalcy.
- UW Baseball had a miserable start to the season, but showed some green shoots in the last few weeks. After the Dawgs beat #1 UCLA in the last series of the regular season, they had a nice showing in the B1G Tournament. They won their first-round game over Ohio St and then beat Michigan to qualify for the quarterfinals. They lost to Oregon on Saturday, but the improved play late in the season gives hope for a step forward next year.
