The Boston Red Sox just lost another game tonight, falling to the Minnesota Twins for the second night in a row. The offense was abysmal, only getting two runs, and making it painfully obvious how much Boston needs another power bat.

The pitching did OK, as it wasn’t one of the four Boston stars throwing, but Brayan Bello, who the Sox decided to once again put behind an opener in Jovani Moran.

In his first six starts, Bello was the worst pitcher in baseball. Boston then decided to try and put an opener in front of him, where he then dropped his ERA from 9.12 to 6.46 in just two games.

However, just after those two games, the Red Sox decided Bello didn’t need an opener again. You can guess what happened. He got blown up again, ballooning his ERA from 6.46 to 7.12.

So, on the next go around, they gave him his opener.

That go around was tonight, and Bello did well, even with the loss. Moran gave up two runs in the first innings, and then Bello came in with five strong innings. He got five Ks, and while he gave up two more runs, they weren’t earned.

It seems that Bello is good with an opener, and if the Sox continue to give him one, he’ll continue to be somewhat successful.

However, even with the fact having an opener works for Bello, it’s clear his time in the rotation is limited. Garrett Crochet is working his way back from the IL, and there’s no one else in the rotation that he could justifiably take a spot from.

The only person would be Bello. Considering the Sox do have to burn a reliever instantly for every “start” Bello has now, it makes sense that he will finally get the boot from the rotation.
