Scheffler turned on the heat on his back nine at TPC Craig Ranch on Friday after making a fairly pedestrian start to his second round.
However, Si Woo Kim fired a special second round 60, despite making a bogey on his final hole.
Si Woo leads the CJ CUP Byron Nelson on 18-under par after two rounds, while Scottie Scheffler is in a tie for second on 13-under par.

“Yeah, I always love to play with him and I always learn a lot from him every time during a practice round or a tournament day.
“So, yeah, it is always great to be paired with him.“
Scheffler and Si Woo are clearly very close friends and the fact that they both shot such great scores on Friday cannot be a coincidence.
Scottie Scheffler says what it was like playing with Si Woo Kim
The world number one spoke to reporters after his second round on Friday, and responded when asked what the atmosphere was like in their group.
“We were just hanging out like normal,“ Scheffler said.
“Just normal stuff. The same stuff we do here at home, just messing around and having fun, and playing golf. That’s really all it is.
“Not really just too much to it. It just felt like we were playing another round here at home.
“I jokingly pressed him a few times out there like we do at our game here at home, but fortunately we weren’t doing any gambling today because he would have smoked me.“
Scottie Scheffler will now be intent on chasing Si Woo Kim down over the weekend at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson.
However, he will have his work cut out, given the quality of the South Korean’s golf right now.
