Aaron Rodgers will return as the Pittsburgh Steelers' starting quarterback in 2026, but the upcoming season will be his last.

While speaking to the media on Wednesday, Rodgers revealed that 2026 will be his final season in the NFL. Unless he changes his mind, Rodgers' illustrious career that spanned over two decades will come to an end with the Steelers.

"Yes. This is it," Rodgers said when asked if 2026 is his last year via Brooke Pryor of ESPN.

Why Rodgers returned to Steelers in 2026

Rodgers' retirement has been a possibility for a few years now. However, the 42-year-old decided to have one last ride in Pittsburgh this season, and the future Hall of Famer said head coach Mike McCarthy is a major reason why he returned to the Steelers for 2026.

"I thought that was probably it for me in Pittsburgh. But when the decision was made to hire Mike, I started opening my mind back up to coming back," Rodgers said when asked if his time with the Steelers was over after Mike Tomlin's departure via Pryor.

Now, it should be noted that Rodgers said last year that he was "pretty sure" that 2025 would be his final season. Obviously, that didn't end up being the case, so we should take his words on retirement with a grain of salt.

However, there's no denying that the end is near for Rodgers, who is set to turn 43 in December and has seen his play decline in recent years, though the four-time MVP is still an adequate starting signal-caller.
