The Kentucky Wildcats weren't able to land any of their top recruiting targets in the 2026 class, but that isn't stopping coach Mark Pope from going after the top guys in 2027. One of their targets is forward Marcus Spears Jr., who they recently visited, according to Kentucky Sports Radio.
Pope, along with Mikhail McLean and Mo Williams, took a trip to Texas to see Spears, and it apparently went well. Spears had good things to say about Kentucky.

I mean, it’s Kentucky. Ultimately, you know what you’re getting. As I said, you have to go for the basketball. The crowd is good at any place
Spears is a 6'9", 210 lb power forward out of Texas who is currently ranked as the top overall player by 247Sports. He's a terrific athlete with skills around the rim offensively, and a good feel for protecting the paint as well. His upside is tremendous.
Kentucky wasn't the only team to pay him a visit recently. Coaches from the Texas Longhorns and LSU Tigers were also in town to see him. Offers have already poured in from top programs, and more are sure to follow. Could he wind up as Pope's first top five commitment? For now, it sounds like they're in the mix.
