Former Spartans linebacker Wayne Matthews III has signed with the Chicago Bears, according to a post from Michigan State football's social media account. Matthews was not selected in this year's NFL Draft but received a minicamp invite from the Bears following the draft. It appears Matthews made the most of that minicamp invite with the Bears signing him on Monday.

Matthews played two seasons with the Spartans after transferring from Old Dominion following the 2023 season. He appeared in 21 games during his Spartans career, recording 106 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Matthews was a captain for the Spartans this past season and showed signs of being able to play in the NFL throughout his time at Michigan State. Now, it appears he is getting his next chance and moving one step further in pursuing a career in professional football.
