Chelsea want to appoint a new manager as quickly as possible, and every outlet out there wants the scoop on what the Blues will do next.
Yesterday there were reports that the club had already spoken to Andoni Iraola in person, seeming to cement the Bournemouth coach’s status as favourite to get the job.
Today, however, an update from the Evening Standard‘s Dom Smith says that the Blues have also now spoken to Xabi Alonso, the man who is gradually closing in on Iraola as favourite with the bookies.
Chelsea shortlist narrowed down to “between 5 and 6” candidates
The piece claims there are “between five and six candidates being seriously considered for the job.”
So that would be Iraola, Alonso, Marco Silva, Filipe Luis, Oliver Glasner… we wonder who the last one would be? Could there yet be a name we’re not hearing who could come to the fore?
It feels likely that the eventual choice comes from within that group, and we could find out sooner rather than later.
