Philadelphia Phillies' Alec Bohm Gets Honest About Current Slump

· Yahoo Sports

Alec Bohm's season has gone from a slow start to a full-out slump for the Philadelphia Phillies hitter. He's been moved down in the lineup after starting the year as the cleanup hitter, and still can't catch a break.

Just over a quarter of a war through the 2026 season, Bohm owns a brutal .159/.227/.206 slash line.

It's gotten to the point where Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly sees the work Bohm is putting in, but has decided to give him a few days off to reset his mind.

Bohm talked before Friday night's game about getting these days off and where's at mentality and with his swing.

“It’s not like there’s one magic answer that’s just going to make everything click. Or maybe there is, and I just haven’t gotten there yet," said Bohm (quote via MLB.com's Todd Zolecki).

Sometimes, when a player is slumping, they know the issue and know what they must do to fix it.

Unfortunately, the same can be said of Bohm, and he admitted as much.

“It's not the swing. It’s not the approach. There’s not really one thing that I can put my thumb on and be like, OK, that’s it. The timing's here and there sometimes," continued Bohm.

"I’ve had games where my timing's been good. And some of those games, I end up hitting a couple balls over 100 mph. There’s one I don't get up in the air, and there's another that just goes right at someone. And it’s like, all right, well, there's two at-bats where in a different world maybe I could have been 2-for-4 instead of 0-for-4. And it's just, you know, really hard to detach from the result, especially when it's early in the season.”

If there's any silver lining for Bohm and the Phillies, it's some of the advanced stats. Bohm is swinging at the right pitches. He owns a chase rate of just 23 percent, a whiff rate of 85 percent, and a strikeout rate of 15.6 percent.

Bohm may not know exactly what's causing the slump right now, but hopefully he can use the promising numbers as a guide to get back on track.

The Phillies have obviously been playing better baseball over the last two weeks, but they'll still need Bohm to be a quality hitter to reach their ultimate goal of the 2026 season.
