The New York Jets know, all too well, how important stability at kicker can be. Unfortunately for them, it has been one of the franchise’s revolving doors in recent years.
After moving on from kicker Greg Zuerlein and watching veteran Nick Folk leave for the Atlanta Falcons in free agency, the Jets once again find themselves searching for a long-term solution at one of football’s most quietly important positions.

This time, however, they appear content allowing the answer to emerge naturally through competition.
Special teams coordinator Chris Banjo recently addressed the situation and made it clear the organization is excited about the process ahead:

Banjo specifically mentioned York and international prospect Lenny Krieg, though undrafted rookie Will Ferrin also figures to receive a legitimate opportunity once offseason programs fully ramp up.
At first glance, York may appear to be the favorite simply because of experience. The former Cleveland Browns draft pick has appeared in NFL games and possesses strong leg talent, including a career-long field goal of 59 yards. The concern, however, is consistency. York owns a career field-goal percentage of 73.3 percent, a number that leaves room for improvement.
Krieg may be the most intriguing name in the group. The former soccer player spent the 2025 season developing on Atlanta’s practice squad and still carries significant upside despite lacking regular-season NFL experience.
Then, there’s Ferrin, whose college résumé may quietly make him the steadiest option of the bunch. After transferring from the Boise State Broncos to the BYU Cougars, Ferrin connected on 58 field goals across three seasons with the Cougars, including a career-long 56-yarder last year.
There may not be a proven answer on the roster yet, but the Jets at least have competition. For a franchise searching for consistency, that is a starting point.
