FOUR SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR DISTRACTION THEFTS IN SCARBOROUGH

Four arrests have been made in connection with two distraction robberies in Scarborough last month.

Toronto Police allege that on April 22, around 6 p.m. the suspects were driving a grey Dodge Journey in the Lawrence Ave. E. and Scarborough Golf Club Rd. area when they used force to put fake jewelry on an elderly woman’s hand to distract her.

It’s further alleged the suspects then forcibly removed the victim’s gold wedding ring from her finger and initially escaped but were found nearby.

Two women and one man were arrested in the Dodge Journey and the stolen jewelry was allegedly recovered. Police said search warrants were executed at several addresses.

As a result, additional jewelry was located, including both fake costume jewelry used in these distraction robberies as well as jewelry believed to have been stolen from other victims.

Banana Lacatus, 32, Ion Miclescu, 26, and Elena Costantin, 20, all of Toronto, are charged with robbery and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

During the execution of the search warrants, one additional male suspect was identified in relation to another robbery in the Conlins Rd. and Ellesmere Rd. area.

It’s alleged between 2:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on April 20, a black Nissan Kicks occupied by a male driver and two female passengers pulled up to an elderly man in the area, exited the car and began to distract him by asking for directions and praying for him.

It’s further alleged the suspect then used force to take off the victim’s gold chain necklace and replaced it with two fake chains and a ring.

On April 23, Surbu Constantin, 40, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with robbery.

Investigators believe that there may be more victims and images of three of the arrested parties have been released.
