Browns linked to potential reunion with former first overall pick

· Yahoo Sports

We have reached the end of the NFL Draft and the meat of the NFL free agency period, and the Cleveland Browns have plugged most of their depth chart slots. However, they still have room for a rotational defensive end to come off the bench in relief of Myles Garrett and Alex Wright.

Perhaps they could reunite with an old friend to fill that spot on the depth chart.

Per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Browns may have interest in a potential reunion with former first overall pick and pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney. That's about as definitive as we can be, as Garafolo said that "some of his former teams" have interest in Clowney. So while Garafolo did not explicitly say the Browns had interest in Clowney, they are among those seven teams that he could be hinting at.

Looking back at Clowney's time with the Browns

Clowney suited up for the Browns during a two-year tenure from 2021-2022. During that time, Clowney racked up a total of 11 sacks and 15 tackles for loss. His 2021 season was a strong showing playing opposite Myles Garrett, racking up nine sacks.

There is a reason to doubt whether or not the Browns are one of the former teams that Garafolo is referring to given how his tenure ended in Cleveland, however. Clowney was a healthy scratch for the final game of the 2022 season after he went to the Cleveland media, trashing the organization and his role on the team.
