Kerala results: CM Pinarayi Vijayan leads in Dharmadam

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was leading against the Congress in the Dharmadam constituency on Monday, as the counting of votes in the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections was underway.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader was ahead of the Congress’ VP Abdul Rasheed by 3,559 at the end of eight rounds of counting. Earlier in the day, Vijayan had been trailing the Congress candidate.

There will be a total of 15 rounds of counting.

Vijayan, who won the seat in 2021 by a margin of over 50,000 votes, is seeking a third consecutive term.

At the state level, the Congress-led United Democratic Front was ahead in 92 seats while the ruling Left Democratic Front was ahead in 40, data from the Election Commission showed at 12.25 pm.

A party or an alliance needs 71 seats in the 140-member Assembly to secure a majority.

At least six ministers in the state were trailing in their respective constituencies at 12.25 pm. These include Veena George (Aranmula), MB Rajesh (Thrithala), R Bindu (Irinjalakuda), J Chinchurani (Chadayamangalam), P Rajeeve (Kalamassery), KB Ganesh Kumar (Pathanapuram), and Roshy Augustine (Idukki).

The counting began at 8 am. More than 880 candidates are contesting the polls. The polling in all 140 seats was held on April 9. A turnout of 79.6% was recorded.

Several exit polls have forecast that the Congress-led alliance would win the polls.
