It was just about Mainz all over again for Bayern Munich, who came from behind on two separate occasions to earn a 3-3 draw vs. Heidenheim at the Allianz Arena just a few short days before their all-important second leg of the Champions League semifinals vs. Paris Saint-Germain.

Two goals slightly against the run of play in the first half from Budu Zivivadze and Eren Dinkçi gave Heidenheim the shock 2-0 lead, but Leon Goretzka’s free kick for Bayern halved the deficit before the halftime whistle. It was Bayern’s number 8 that again scored to level things at 2-2 off of a Michael Olise corner in the 57th minute as Bayern were strong out of the gates in the second half after Vincent Kompany brought on Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Luis Díaz, and Joshua Kimmich. Heidenheim also thought they had things wrapped up for a historic result in Munich after Zivivadze’s wonder strike in the 76th minute, but Olise’s strike that deflected in off of keeper Diant Ramaj with the last kick of the ball sealed a point for the German Rekordmeister.
For Kompany and Bayern, it’s not quite the same type of momentum as last week’s 4-3 rally win at Mainz going into the first match against PSG, but the Heidenheim clash was always going to be hard to be fully up for with the second leg against PSG just days away. For PSG’s Ligue 1 match vs. Lorient, Luis Enrique made wholesale changes to his starting eleven from the one he fielded in the first leg against Bayern and they’re still in a bit of a Ligue 1 title race with RC Lens, so it’s clear both sides wanted to preserve as much as they could ahead of Wednesday.
After the full time whistle when the Bayern squad was showing their appreciation to the fans and ultras in the Südkurve, a banner was displayed that read “MittwochAlle In Rot” or “Wednesday All in Red” as a rallying cry for fans to come decked out in Red to the Allianz Arena Wednesday night.

It’s the same expression that was used by the club ahead of the second leg quarterfinals against Real Madrid that Bayern wound up winning 4-3, and 6-4 on overall aggregate. Whilst the reminder isn’t really needed for a crowd and fan base as faithful and devoted as Bayern’s, it still heightens the feeling of togetherness and fighting spirit in the midst of what has well and truly been an amazing season for Bayern that’s not quite done yet.
