On the latest episode of JohnWallStreet Presents: Big Business on Campus, a college sports podcast powered by Playfly Sports and sponsored by Short’s Sports Travel Logistics, JohnWallStreet Founder Corey Leff and Playfly Sports Chairman Michael Schreiber sit down for a commercially-focused conversation with Pac-12 Conference Commissioner Teresa Gould.
In this 40-minute conversation, we touch on:
The Pac-12’s Proprietary Revenue Engine
“One of our real points of differentiation is Pac-12 Enterprises. There's no other conference that owns and operates a for-profit entity like [it],” Gould said. “We essentially took Pac-12 Networks and the infrastructure and technology that existed, and [repurposed] it to [create this new commercial entity] which now [functions as] a content creation machine, a technology hub, [and] a production facility that has the ability to generate resources, not only [for] our media rights partners, but with outside clients. It was tremendous leadership on the part of Oregon State and Washington State to decide to keep that asset.”
The Commissioner said Pac-12 Enterprises is producing cash-flow for the conference’s member institutions.

Agility as a Strategic Edge
The Pac-12 believes it can move faster and be more aggressive than its peers.
“It’s really hard in conferences to get things done and influence change when you have legacy thinking, when members have been together for a hundred years. So, [not having that institutional inertia is a] competitive advantage for us,” Gould said. “One example [where that flexibility was apparent] would be the deal we announced recently with Genius Sports…We stepped out and did something different than what other conferences have done in the data rights space.”
The Pac-12 inked a multi-year integrity, technology, and AI partnership that will generate income.
“The other piece of [the deal] is we have a unique opportunity [to leverage Genius data] from a fan engagement perspective because we're producing our own live events,” Gould added.
Turning History into Recurring Income
While newly re-launched, the Pac-12 is sitting on over a century’s worth of library content—an underappreciated asset that can be licensed and sold across platforms and partners.
“We have the benefit of 110 years of video to leverage as a revenue stream. That is incredibly valuable because of the history and legacy of this league,” Gould said.
