Former Trojan lineman Mason Murphy signs with Chicago Bears

· Yahoo Sports

The USC reunion in Chicago will not stop with the quarterback position. The Bears have now signed Auburn and former USC Trojan offensive lineman Mason Murphy. That marks three former USC Trojans on the Bears' roster. All three were on the Trojans at the same time.

From 2021 to 2024, Murphy was the right tackle for the USC Trojans and protector for Caleb Williams. The two were teammates for 3 seasons together at USC. During that tenure, Murphy played in 39 games and started 22 games at right tackle.

The Bears love and prioritize versatility at all positions, but finding that on the O-line is like finding gold. Murphy, during his time at Auburn last season, started all 12 games, 9 of which he started at right tackle. In the final 3 games of the season, he started at center. Being able to play center and tackle will be something that will have Murphy stand out from the rest of the bunch.

Ryan Poles always emphasizes how hard it is to make the Bears roster, but with Murphy's versatility and his size, he can make quite a case for himself, landing on the Bears practice squad. In that scenario, Caleb Williams will have one of his guys in the practices and in the building all season long. It is the little things that keep the most important people in the building happy/. Huge plus that Murphy actually would be a very valuable piece on the Bears team.
