Dusty May and the Michigan Wolverines received a transfer portal commitment out of LSU forward Jalen Reed today, per Joe Tipton.

Reed is a 6-foot-10, 245 pound forward initially out of Jackson, Mississippi. He played his high school ball at Southern California Academy, an elite basketball academy in Castaic, California.
Jalen spent four years at LSU, suffering season-ending injuries in each of his last two. When healthy, he is a fluid, versatile forward who can create his own offense in the paint while also spacing the floor. He’s not an elite athlete, but he is very efficient and an above-average rebounder.
As a freshmen, Reed started one-third of LSU’s games, averaging just 3.7 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. In his sophomore season, Jalen played in all 32 of LSU’s matchups and averaged 7.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. He shot 51.6 percent from the field and scored in double-digits 10 times.
In his junior season, Reed was averaging a career-best 11.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game before tearing his ACL against Florida State in December of 2024. He returned to Baton Rouge for his redshirt junior season and was again off to a good start (9.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game) before suffering a season-ending injury. Reed injured his left Achilles against Drake which required season-ending surgery.
For Dusty May and Michigan, Reed provides another versatile, unselfish big who can guard multiple positions. While his injury history is a major red flag, should Reed be able to stay healthy he should be a solid rotational pickup for the Wolverines.
