Los Angeles Angels slugger Jorge Soler is off to a great start to 2026, and ESPN’s David Schoenfield named him as the top trade candidate on the team.

Soler’s start has been among the best on the team, as he has the second-most homers among Angels players with five, and leads the team in RBIs with 18 on the season and 13 in the month of April. Soler’s status as an expiring deal makes him a valuable asset for the Angels, though Schoenfield also noted they aren’t exactly notorious for selling at the deadline.
“Soler could be one of the few big hitters available if the Angels fade, but they’re usually unwilling to admit that they’re out of it,” Schoenfield wrote.

The Halos have rushed their top prospects to the majors for the past several seasons, and their poor farm system has finally caught up with them. The Angels ranked 28th in MLB.com’s most recent farm system power rankings.
“This is a high-risk, high-reward system,” the power rankings read. “The Angels have rolled the dice on several high-ceiling high school pitchers over the past couple of Drafts. If that group performs well, this system will shoot up the rankings faster than their upper-90s heaters. But we all know the inherent risk of the demographic. There are also some interesting hitters from the international market who made some noise last year, even while being rushed up levels. That will further buoy the organization if they keep swinging the bat well.”
If the Angels do trade for Soler, they’d definitely be able to command a reasonable return—especially if he keeps swinging the bat the way he is right now. They’re currently only 0.5 games out of the division lead, though, and could certainly keep the slugger if they find themselves in a good position come the end of July.
