Wine Guy: After 2 difficult years, B.C. wines are back to basics with local grapes

Finally, the 2025 vintage wines are starting to arrive. While it’s exciting each year to see new wines land on shelves, for local wineries 2025 is particularly pertinent. After two drastically difficult years — battling wildfires and cold snaps in 2023 and severe frosts again in 2024 that decimated more than 90 per cent of the expected grape crop — B.C. wines are back to being made from B.C.-grown grapes. Fortuitously, all indications are that vintage 2025 will be one to remember: a long, warm (but not overly hot) growing season leading to great fruit.
