Entering the final round in a tie for the lead, McIlroy carded a steady 1-under-par 71 to finish at 12-under for the tournament, narrowly holding off a late surge from world No 1 Scottie Scheffler.
Besides celebrating a stunning victory, the winnings banked by McIlroy will make your eyes water.
How much did the Masters champion bank?
This payout is the largest in the history of the Masters, reflecting a significant increase in the tournament’s total purse to $22.5 million (R371,909,250).
McIlroy’s winner’s share alone accounts for roughly R74.4 million of that total
For his historic repeat performance, McIlroy took home a record-breaking winner’s check, and adds to his official career earnings on the PGA Tour stand at $114,696,641 (R1.89 Billion).
Another victory to remember
As in 2025, McIlroy persevered on a day when his mettle was tested and he lost the lead, briefly as many as three strokes on the first nine, before clawing his way back on top.
“I never make it easy,” said McIlroy, who led by a record six strokes after 36 holes but fell into a tie with Cameron Young after the third round.
“Good things come to those who wait,” added McIlroy, whose 2025 Masters win broke an 11-year major drought. “Just keep going. I found myself in a very similar position today to where I was in the last round last year, two or three behind, but I played solid golf after that.
“It took me 10 years to win my fifth major, and then my sixth one’s come pretty soon after it,” he said. “I’m not putting a number on it, but I certainly don’t want to stop here.”
