It’s full time at Stamford Bridge after Chelsea were taken apart in the second half by Man City. The Blues were outclassed, and their own fans knew it. It was probably what most of them were expecting before kick off, to be honest.
One of Sky Sports’ reporters noted some pretty damning commentary from the home support on their team’s efforts in the second period.
Chelsea fans ironically celebrate their team passing the ball
“There are ironic ‘oles’ from the Chelsea fans as their players pass to each other,” Peter Smith wrote.
“Amid the title-race drama, we shouldn’t forget what a damaging defeat this is for Chelsea and Liam Rosenior in their Champions League qualification bid.”
Usually the fans give an “ole” for every pass when their team is dominating possession and toying with the opposition. In this case, City set a passing record for a visiting team in the first half at Stamford Bridge.
This sarcastic version of that old trope shows just how disheartened the supporters are with what’s going on at their club right now. They could barely even summon the energy for a big boo-ing at full time.
In other news…
Chelsea’s second half collapse saw them concede three goals and fold pretty meekly in the end.
Man City’s total first half domination was notable in their passing stats, which set a record.
