UNC basketball wing enters transfer portal

· Yahoo Sports

This will be a big week in college basketball as not only will the sport crown a new national champion, but the offseason will officially begin. That includes the transfer portal, which opens up early this week.

For North Carolina, they're in a bit of a limbo. They don't have a head coach yet as the search continues on without any sign that it's ending any time soon. With that, current UNC players are likely waiting for a coaching decision before figuring out whether or not they want to stay.

So it won't be surprising to see some players enter their names in the portal with the option to return to UNC still on the table. And on Sunday, the first player has made his decision.

Freshman guard Isaiah Denis announced on Instagram that he will enter the transfer portal but is leaving the option to return to North Carolina.

“UNC is a special place,” Denis said in his announcement. “That is why even though I intend to enter the transfer portal due to the coaching uncertainty, I’m keeping the option open to return to UNC.”

Denis committed to North Carolina out of Davidson High School, deciding to stay in-state. But his playing time was limited in his lone season so far. He appeared in 10 games and averaged 1.4 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field.
