Bucs legend discusses concerns over top 2026 NFL Draft prospect

· Yahoo Sports

As we are just over three weeks out from the 2026 NFL Draft taking place in Pittsburgh. The traffic in town might be the second most talked about topic around the event after the discussion of Miami (FL) edge defender Rueben Bain Jr. and his arm length.

The ACC defender was one of the more dominant defenders in college football last year, despite the speculation about his arm length. The talk never fazed Bain, as it was business as usual on his way to having a Heisman Trophy-level season on a defense that was dominant enough to take the Hurricanes all the way to the national championship game.

The talk about his arm length and pro potential made it over to The ArenaGridiron where Gerald McCoy was discussing the issue. McCoy, of course, is a former All-Pro and top pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Thus, when he talks about a defensive line prospect, folks should tune in.

McCoy explained that in conversations he has had with teams about Bain, the arm length remains an issue for some.

"Y'all can underestimate how much important they're putting on that boy's arms being short. Every defensive line coach I talk to, all my defensive line friends, they believe it's a problem. . .I'm one of the only people that believe that you can coach him up, to play it properly. You see, even seeing offensive linemen saying they would love to go against a guy like that, and separation is just so important."

Bain is going to go in the top ten, regardless of how analysts or former players feel about it. The potential is too much to pass up, but seeing where he lands could help determine whether he makes an impact right away or if it takes a bit of time.
