WAYNE TROONEY SLAMS 2010 WORLD CUP IN SOUTH AFRICA
Speaking on the YouTube channel The Overlap, Wayne Rooney shared his experience at the FIFA 2010 World Cup.
He said, “You are not getting worse than South Africa.
Rooney – now 40 years old – bemoaned the lack of fan presence and the atmosphere in South Africa.
He said: “We were travelling to the USA game, the first game. [While] we were driving to the game, it was pitch black, there’s no fans there.
“The way you normally go to welcome the fans, [the atmosphere], it was nothing.
“It just didn’t feel like a World Cup at all.”

England were knocked out of the tournament in the round of 16 after a defeat to Germany.
The national team was criticised for their lacklustre World Cup performances in other matches against the US, Algeria, and Slovenia. Despite one victory against Slovenia, and two draws against the US and Algeria, their loss to Germany was enough to send them home.
GAYTON CLAPS BACK…
On his X account, Minister of Sport Gayton McKenzie slammed Wayne Rooney for his comments.
He tweeted: “If I got knocked out 4-1 by Germany in the round of 16, I would have also thought it was a horrible World Cup. Go kick a ball instead of trying to kick Africa. Loser”.

Gayton has previously backed South Africa to win the 2016 Ffa World Cup.
He added, “There is no country like South Africa, and I definitely think we will win the World Cup. You may look at stats and all that, but that’s not how football works. I go with my heart — we will win”.
