The Boston Bruins weren’t the busiest team in the league during this month’s NHL trade deadline. But the team’s one move of note is already paying off as 23-year-old winger Lukas Reichel scored in his Bruins debut on Thursday night.

Reichel came to Boston by way of the Vancouver Canucks in the final minutes before the deadline. He appeared in only 14 games for the Canucks before being traded this season, recording just one point on the year.
Perhaps a change of scenery is just what the doctor ordered for the German native, who was lighting it up for the Providence Bruins before he got the call-up on Wednesday night. He recorded five points in just three games played in Rhode Island, including four assists and one goal.
Reichel has simply not produced as expected since he was taken with the 17th pick in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft.
He began his career with the Chicago Blackhawks. He was an every-night player by year three in Chicago, but the points still weren’t coming. He had five goals and 11 assists in 65 games in 2024, and eight goals with 14 assists in 70 games last season.
Head coach Marco Sturm slotted him into the third line for his Boston debut, centered by Elias Lindholm and winged by goal scorer Morgan Geekie.
A friendly bounce in the 6-1 routing of the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night could prove to be the jolt his career needed as the Bruins picked up two huge points on home ice.
