Remember Monty, “the playful and goofy” five-year-old male hound who had been at the Humane Society of Oakville, Milton and Halton for 443 days?
Well, the shelter announced on its Instagram page Wednesday that Monty had found a home after being given his own special weekend for potential adopters on March 14-15.

“Monty has been adopted!” HSOMH said.
“It was a bittersweet goodbye to this amazing dog as he walked the shelter one last time but we couldn’t be happier for Monty and Dave! Congratulations to them on finding each other.”
The heartwarming video shows Monty excitedly walking through the shelter’s hallway and emerging to the staff lined up on either side of him and clapping as he runs around and finally emerges in the parking lot with his new owner, Dave, holding him on a leash and petting him while getting a kiss from the happy canine.
“After over 450 days, Monty has been adopted,” says the subtitled video. “We came together. Monty was seen. Monty was chosen. Now onto his next chapter. You are home.”

Made an impact on Monty’s life
“Thank you to everyone that shared, liked, commented and followed along on Monty’s journey,” the shelter said on Instagram.
“You made such an impact on his life and the rest of the animals in our care. We can’t wait to see what’s next!”
HSOMH marketing and communications manager Katherine Wilson said the delightful doggie was indeed adopted during his special weekend.
“Dave came into meet Monty and Monty just loved Dave and then Dave came back later in the day with his wife and it went really well,” she said.
“We are all thrilled over here. Dave is very tickled by this whole thing and he’s even started a reddit account for Monty and an Instagram account because he knows people are invested in Monty. They’re both called Monty’s Next Chapter. He was a lovely dog and he was here for a very long time.”
Reaction on HSOMH’s instagram has been positive.
“He’s such a happy, sweet boy!!!! And so good for his new dad!!! Congrats Monty and fam!!” wrote lovelylianneg.

In Monty’s case there was no adoption fee due to “a very generous donor.”
