Oscars on alert after FBI warn possible ‘surprise attack’
The 2026 edition of the Academy Awards has its guard up after the FBI issued a warning about a possible “surprise attack” from Iran.
The FBI issued a warning to law enforcement officials in California claiming the state could be a target for retaliatory drone attacks due to American military actions in the Middle East.
Set to take place this Sunday, security will be increased but not overtly visible for the Oscars, Variety reports.
Footage of vessel being attack released by Iran
The Revolutionary Guard in Iran has claimed responsibility for attacking the Safesea Vishnu vessel off Iraq by releasing video of the moment it was struck.

Ukraine looking to sign drone deal with U.S.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is hoping to sign a major agreement with the United States on the production of drones. It requires White House approval, however.
If signed, the deal would cover the production of different types of drones and air defence systems that operate as a single system. The system would be capable of protecting against hundreds of Iranian drones and missiles, Zelenskyy said Thursday on Telegram.
He hoped American officials would be open to supporting the agreement, given the security challenges in the Middle East.
At least 19 ships damaged so far in war
At least 19 commercial ships have been damaged so far in the Israeli-U.S. war against Iran, figures from the Joint Maritime Information Center, a coalition overseen by the U.S. Navy, showed Thursday.
Throughout Wednesday night and into Thursday morning there were at least 16 ships attacked in the Persian Gulf and wider region.
Separately, an oil rig was also attacked off Saudi Arabia. Two ships at a port near Basra, Iraq, were hit by Iranian fire, while another was attacked off the coast of the United Arab Emirates on Thursday.
