Don’t expect to see “El Gallo” back in the ring anytime soon.
It has been about three months (Fri., Dec. 19, 2025) since YouTuber-turned professional boxer Jake Paul was viciously knocked out by former Heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, suffering a broken jaw in the process at Judgement Day inside Kayesa Center in Miami, Florida (watch highlights).

Paul had hoped to return to the boxing ring in late summer or early fall after taking time off to recover from the injury. However, he recently revealed that his recovery hit a setback and required a second surgery.
“I got my second surgery recently, and the doctor said it will be four, five or six months to even be able to spar to see how the bone is healing,” Paul told reporters at the Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano news conference yesterday (watch here). “So that puts us maybe late this year or early next year for a fight.”
After suffering a double jaw fracture during his sixth-round stoppage loss to Joshua, the injury was severe enough to require immediate surgery the following day, followed by a second corrective procedure in February.
While the social media star continues planning his eventual return to the ring, he says he’s moving on from his Heavyweight experiment. According to Paul, his next fight will take place at a more natural weight class where he believes he can better compete.
“Definitely will be a cruiserweight,” Paul said. “Joshua’s punches hurt way more than people in my weight class. That’s where I’m best at, for sure, and where I want to continue to climb in the rankings and make some statements.”
Even though Paul insists he’s done competing at Heavyweight, he has previously floated the idea of facing former UFC championFrancis Ngannou — which could potentially lure him back up in weight for one more big-money showdown.
For now, though, Paul’s focus remains on recovery.
